I started this post as a philosophical discussion, from the point of view of both a parent and child, on what it means to turn eighteen.

I got caught up in the swirl of emotions surrounding the life changes we are all experiencing now, and so decided to make this post an Ode to Erik.

Erik is a high school senior and alpine racer. He is smart, caring, easy-going, and always ready for fun. He lights up a room with his smile and energy. Despite some bumps along the way, he has just been accepted to his first choice college.

Erik–be happy, ski fast, and do the right thing.
