Henderson in the Hall
Ricky Henderson sailed into the Baseball Hall of Fame today on the first ballot, with almost 95% of the vote.
We remember Ricky flying headfirst into second base, or blazing home or making a snatch fly ball catch. His career as one of the best leadoff hitters was defined by speed. He shattered the stolen base record with 1,406, 468 more than any other player, and scored 2,295 runs which also ranks first.
In keeping with Henderson’s free spirited nature and love of the game, he did not stop playing when he failed to get picked up a major league team after the 2003 season. He ended up playing for two independent league teams.
